TePaTePa
by Atso Almila
for brass band
Description
TePaTePa (1984) was commissioned by the Swedish tuba player Michael Lind for the Scandinavian Brass tour in Scandinavia and USA. The first performances were conducted by Jorma Panula, who had been my conducting professor.
The title is based onomatopoetically to the rhythmic pattern which can be heard throughout the piece. Partly that and also the thematic material was based on my music for Shakespeare’s play King Lear in the National Theatre of Finland, but only musically, not storywise.
