Heartmonth

Description

Sydänkuu (Heartmonth) was the name the ancient Finns gave to the midwinter months - there were actually two of them, covering a period from Christmas to about February 20. The title of the cello-piano duo refers to the intimate atmosphere and to the time of year when I wrote it. The work was written for Roi Ruottinen and Jerry Jantunen.

Sydänkuu oli muinaisten suomalaisten nimitys keskitalven kuukausille - sydänkuita oli itse asiassa kaksi, ja ne käsittivät ajanjakson joulusta helmikuun 20. päivän tienoille asti. Sello-pianoduon otsikko viittaakin, paitsi kappaleen intiimiin tunnelmaan, myös sen pääasialliseen kirjoitusajankohtaan. Teos on sävelletty Roi Ruottiselle ja Jerry Jantuselle.
