The qualitative elements of bars with their upbeats, accents and GPs
create a refined musical rhetoric in this piece for bassoon and piano.
The roguish poetic metres gambol jerkily along, and although at surface
level the music may appear guileless, Lintinen knows his polyphony,
judging by the capital roving of his voices even in the homophonic
textures.

Musiikillista kerrosvoileipää kutsutaan rondoksi. Säveltämässäni Rondo burlesquessa pääteema (A) esiintyy kuusi kertaa. Näiden väliin sijoittuu viisi muuta kohtausta (B, C, D, E ja F). Teoksen
muotorakenne on siis ABACADAEAFA.
A-osista (vuokaleipäviipaleista) ensimmäinen (so. pohjimmainen) ja viimeinen (päällimmäinen) ovat pisimpiä (paksuimpia). B-, C- ja D-osien (salaatti, juusto ja kinkku) väleissä A-jaksot asteittain lyhenevät (ohenevat), kunnes E- ja F-osia (tomaatti ja mustapippuri) edeltävät A:t ovat lähes liudentuneet (muhjuuntuneet) ympäristöönsä. Pääteeman viimeinen paluu (kansi) esittelee A:n vielä kokonaisuudessaan, jotta rondosta (kerrosvoileivästä) muotoutuisi ehyt paketti (saisi hyvän otteen molemmilla käsillä).
Ja lopuksi tunnustan, etten ajatellut voileipiä hetkeäkään sävellystyöni aikana. Mutta tällaistahan se usein on, kun säveltäjää pyydetään kertomaan kappaleestaan: vastuu siirtyy kuulijalle.
