Pixilated
by Seppo Pohjola
Description
Pixilated (1992) for Pierrot ensemble was the first work I wrote in my present style, and the wild, rapid pace bears echoes of the outbursts of an angry young man on matters both conscious and subconscious. In a way the work adheres to my liking for a tripartite quick—slow—quick form, even though the middle section characterised by the bass clarinet cannot by any means be called slow; rather it represents a certain degree of expansiveness in the expression.

Pixilated (1992) Pierrot-kokoonpanolle oli ensimmäinen nykytyylini mukainen sävellys, jonka nopeassa, rajussa menossa voi kuulla nuoren miehen raivonpurkauksen enemmän tai vähemmän tiedostettuihin kohteisiin. Sävellys toteuttaa, omalla tavallaan, suosimaani kolmivaiheista muotoa nopea–hidas–nopea. Näin siitä huolimatta, ettei Pixilatedin bassoklarinetin karakterisoimaa keskijaksoa todellakaan voi luonnehtia hitaaksi, vaan kyse on ainoastaan jonkinasteisesta ilmaisun laventumisesta.
