Commandé pour le festival anglais de musique contemporaine de Huddersfield, qui a présenté un portrait de Kaija Saariaho dans son édition de 1989, From the Grammar of Dreams, cycle de cinq mélodies, a été donné dans une version scénique par l'Opera Factory. Le texte, en anglais, est emprunté à l'unique roman de Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar, ainsi qu'au poème Paralytic dans la collection Ariel.
