Kaija Saariaho

Kaija Saariaho was a leading voice of her generation, and one of Finland’s internationally best known composers. Her original and recognisable style evolved slowly over the years, with six operas becoming a kind of synthesis for her output, regarded as classics already in her lifetime.

Among instruments, she had a close relationship with flute and cello. Her studies and research at Ircam studios in Paris was of crucial importance to her, and she often combined live musicians with electronics.
