Description

The Concerto for Strings was composed in 1982 and is dedicated for Juha Kangas. [...] The poetical names of the different movements are intended primarily to stimulate the imagination, and they should not be taken too literally. The first movement is marked by a ponderous foreboding of doom, the impressive effect of which is achieved with a modicum of means. The second movement is a wild pagan ritual dance, and the third a religious confession.

Konsertto jousille on sävelletty vuonna 1982 ja se on omistettu Juha Kankaalle. [...] Teoksen osien runolliset nimet (Pahojen päivien aavistuksia, Arkisten huolien häätötanssi, Myöhäinen rukous täyttymyksen saavuttamiseksi) on tarkoitettu lähinnä mielikuvitusta herättämään, niitä ei kannata ottaa liian vakavan ohjelmallisesti. Ensi osaa leimaa painostava tuhon odotus, ja väkevä tunnelma saavutetaan lähes karuin aineksin. Toinen osa on villi, pakanallinen uhritanssi ja kolmas uskonnollissävyinen sielunrippi.
