<p>Matthew Whittall found his way from Canada to Finland in search of musical freedom and nature. In his music he attempts to fuse various influences – for example Old and New World, Western and non-Western, sacred and secular – into a single, variegated expressive language, and uses extramusical imagery ranging from natural phenomena to poetry and landscape art. </p> <p>“Accessible without being banal” was the verdict when receiving the Finnish Teosto Prize in 2013 for his work Dulcissima clara sonans.</p>
