Tuulenpesä

Nest of a Wind, Nest of Wind, Nest of Wind, Nest of Wind
Description
'Tuulenpesä' is a Finnish word which means a thick, shaggy and rounded formation of branches. These can be seen especially in birches. A straight translation for the word is 'nest of wind'.
Nest of Wind is an intuitive fantasy. The basic idea is taken from a progressive rock piece I wrote back in 1981. This idea is characteristic for the beginning. The background is drawn by quarter note ostinato, which gives the ground under our feet. Around the ostinato quarter note triplets are drawing whirls. Above this texture floats a slow melody.
After tranquil and still period the former impressionistic and even romantic atmosphere is in contrast with asymmetric bolero, which begins in the percussion cadenza and dominates the rest of the work.
The closing section is like a parody of a man, who after admiringly watching the wind soaring, tries now to fly by raging wildly on the ground.

Tuulenpesä on intuitiivinen fantasia, jossa lyömäsoittimilla on konsertoiva rooli. Perusidea on lainaus vuonna 1981 säveltämästäni tyyliltään lähinnä progressiivista rockia olevasta kappaleesta.
