Description
The title "Turn" of Tommi Hyytinen's work for solo horn (2025) refers to the numerous rhythmic turns it contains. Following intense rhythmic playfulness at the beginning, the piece evolves into an expressive modal melody. After this, the initial rhythmic motifs return with even greater force, gradually calming towards the end.
Stylistically, the composition can be said to move between different musical genres. Its rapid passages, three-octave range, and the simultaneous playing and singing present a diverse set of technical challenges for the performer.
