Tumma is a piece that explores dense, dark instrumental sonorities and colours through resonating sounds and harmony that is rich in overtones. Ornamented melodic lines and fragments surface throughout the piece as the orchestration thickens, culminating in a surge of instrumental force and a new place of arrival. Tumma is Finnish and translates into a ‘hue of dark’.
