The five colours blind the eye

Music Finland

Description

The piece is inspired by suizen, a shakuhachi flute playing tradition practiced by komusō, a sect of Zen monks during the Edo period in Japan. The komusō where characterized by special basket-like straw hats that covered their head and symbolized the dismissal of the ego and isolation from the world. Central aspects of suizen focus on a single tone and the act of breathing in order to attain spiritual enlightenment.
