Tehkäme iloinen ilta

by Ilkka Aunu

for male choir

Description

A joyful New Year’s celebration in Karelia comes vividly to life in the setting by Ilkka Aunu of Tehkäme iloinen ilta, a poem from the Finnish national collection of folk poetry, Kanteletar. The poem describes the festivities marking the turn of the year, with music, dancing and a celebratory feast at the heart of the occasion.

The folk poem goes beyond a general description of music, dancing and feasting, providing a detailed account of the instruments played at the celebration and the dishes served to the guests. Written for male choir, the work is well suited not only to Christmas and New Year celebrations, but also to any festive occasion calling for music to accompany a joyful evening.
