Theme, 11 Etudes and a Big Cadenza

Description

The etudes are an off-shoot of the material for the piano concerto. For the concerto I did some thorough research into the modes of expression used in piano literature. The result was a library from the depths of which the etudes are compiled. The theme is that of the concerto cadenza. After the etudes the big cadenza is the concerto cadenza. The suite was composed for Jaana Kärkkäinen, who also premiered my piano concerto. Both the concerto and the etudes drew many moments of inspiration from Jaana's profound artist persona and her rich pianism. The etudes were premiered in Antwerpen in 1998.

Etydit syntyivät pianokonserton matriaalista. kartoitin konserttoa varten perusteellisesti pianokirjallisuuden ilmaisuja. Tästä syntyi kirjasto, jonka uumenista ovat etydit koottu. Teema on konserton kadenssin teema. Etydien jäklkeen suuri kadenssi on konserton kadenssi. Kokoelma on kirjoitettu Jaana Kärkkäiselle, joka on myös kantaesittänyt pianokonserttoni. Sekä konsertto etä etydit ovat saaneet monta innoituksen hetkeä Jaanan syvätä taitelijapersoonasta ja hänen rikkaasta pianismistaan. Etydien kantaesitys oli marraskuussa 1998 Antwerpenissä.
