Sonata for violoncello and chamber orchestra
Olli Mustonen
Sonata for violoncello and chamber orchestra
Description
I wrote my Sonata for Cello and Piano in 2006. In one of the first performances of this work, due to a peculiar misunderstanding, it was announced as being a version of a Sonata for Cello and Orchestra. Over the years, this initially amusing misprint has remained in the back of my mind as some kind of an omen, and now, almost ten years later, I have finally written an orchestral version of my dear Sonata. It consists of four movements: Misterioso – the second movement in Andantino character, interrupted by sudden bursts of very rapid scales played by the cello – a brief and furious scherzo – last movement titled ‘Con visione’, which brings the work to a radiant and ecstatic conclusion.
