Description
'Sogni di Dante' is commissioned by Takefu International Music Festival and it is written for ensemble recherche. It received the Takefu International Composition Award 2004.
In the second part of his 'Divine Comedy', the 'Purgatory', the Italian poet Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) describes three dreams. In the second one (Canto XIX) he sees a strange distorted woman who undergoes several transformations: a stuttering lame becomes a beautifully singing siren. In fact in my piece 'Sogni di Dante' my main interest has been the question of identity and difference. There are four different character identities: Giocoso, Trionfante, Lugubre and Misterioso. Each has its own tempo and instrumentation.
These character identities return several times during the piece almost unchanged, and only just before the end they finally mix.

"Sogni di Dante" (Danten unet) on Takefu International Music festivaalin tilaama teos ja se on sävelletty saksalaisen ensemble recherchen muusikoille.
"Jumalaisen näytelmänsä" toisessa osassa "Kiirastulessa" (Purgatorio) Dante Alighieri kuvailee kolme unta. Eräässä niistä (Canto XIX) Dante kohtaa oudon naishahmon, joka käy lävitse sarjan muodonmuutoksia : änkyttävä raajarikko muuttuu Danten katseen voimasta viettelevästi laulavaksi seireeniksi. "Sogni di Dante" -teoksessa minua on erityisesti kiinnostanut tutkia identiteetin ja muutoksen suhdetta toisiinsa. Teoksessa esiintyy neljä toisistaan vahvasti erottuvaakarakteri-identiteettiä : Giocoso (leikkisästi), Trionfante (voittoisasti), Lugubre (synkästi) ja Misterioso (salaperäisesti). Kullakin niistä on oma temponsa ja soitinnuksensa.
Teoksen edetessä karakteri-identiteetit palaavat melkeinpä muuttumattomina kerta toisensa jälkeen, kunnes vasta lopussa ne sekoittuvat toisiinsa.© Juha T. Koskinen
