Simbolo
Description
In Simbolo Bergman takes his serialism to the furthest extreme, since even the rhythms and the dynamics are in places derived from the row. It is characterised by a beautiful-sounding, translucent orchestral texture often woven from short melodic motifs. The overall impression is, however, more ascetic than in his previous orchestral works and at its most highly fragmented moments is almost pointillist.

Simbolo merkitsee Bergmanin tuotannossa pisimmälle vietyä sarjallisuuden sovellusta, sillä rivistä on paikoin johdettu sekä rytmiikan että dynamiikan malleja. Teosta leimaa kaunissointinen ja läpikuultava, usein lyhyistä melodia-aihelmista rakentuva orkesterikudos, joskin yleisilme on askeettisempi kuin Bergmanin aiemmissa orkesteriteoksissa ja lähestyy fragmentaarisimmillaan ns. ”pistemusiikkia”.
