Description

This piece, written in 2002, was inspired by the fact that Sherlock Holmes, the master detective
from Baker Street, is a good amateur violinist. The piece may be understood as a portrait of Holmes
pondering a particularly puzzling crime: he vacillates between euphoria and despair.
Sherlock’s Violin consists of five connected sections. There are several clues - some of them are
naturally false - to help the musician to successfully solve this musical case.

The piece was the first prize winner of the 2002 Kuopio National Composition Contest’s Solo
Violin Category.
