Sanctus

Description
Sanctus was commissioned and premiered by the Tampere Philharmonic Choir on 13 September 2026, conducted by Ruut Kiiski, with Riikka Viljakainen on organ and Tiina Laukkanen on timpani. The piece grew out of a simple observation: there is surprisingly little repertoire written for a dramatic female choir. Sanctus responds to this gap by exploring the expressive and sonic possibilities of the female choir on a large, powerful scale, supported by the organ and timpani.
