Sid Hille
Quatuor No. 3
Description
‘Quatuor no. 3 - Equilibrium’ was composed during fall and winter 2015/2016.
The work consists of three movements:
1. Square
2. Triangular
3. Circular
The musical material is derived from augmented and diminuished scales as it has been typical for Hille’s compositions in recent years.
In ‘Square’ the instruments march in pairs at a brisk pace in a 4/4 time signature.
The slow movement ‘Triangular’ explores a motive based on the augmented scale, thus creating a dreamlike floating atmosphere.
‘Circular’ employs a 12/8 time signature and african polyrythm, storming towards a virtuosic culmination at the end of the piece.
