‘Quatuor no. 3 - Equilibrium’ was composed during fall and winter 2015/2016.
The work consists of three movements:
The musical material is derived from augmented and diminuished scales as it has been typical for Hille’s compositions in recent years.
In ‘Square’ the instruments march in pairs at a brisk pace in a 4/4 time signature.
The slow movement ‘Triangular’ explores a motive based on the augmented scale, thus creating a dreamlike floating atmosphere.
‘Circular’ employs a 12/8 time signature and african polyrythm, storming towards a virtuosic culmination at the end of the piece. Instrumentation
