The first version of the work was premiered at the opening service of the Sibelius Academy in 2014. The title of the work refers to the Psalm text that was used as the Psalm the Day on that occasion [Ps. 30:12].
A part of the material of the work is based on the hymn “Blessed Jesus, at Thy Word” (1664) by Johann Rudolph Ahle. The notes of the first phrase of the hymn are written out in the beginning of the work. The work can be performed in three different ways:
1. The whole hymn by Ahle (preferably in F major) is played before – or in connection with – the work.
2. The notes written out in the beginning of the piece are played in free rhythm, after which the work is played attacca.
3. The work is played individually, without the hymn, starting from measure 1.
There are some dynamic markings that cannot be executed without an assistant. However, it is equally preferable to perform the work without assistance. The indicated tempo range is an estimation. Depending on the acoustics, a slightly slower or faster tempo can be justified. When decided, the tempo should be maintained throughout the work.
