Prologue
by Ernest Pingoud
Prologue symphonique pour Grand Orchestre
Description
The Prologue (also known as Prologue symphonique) is the earliest work by Pingoud to have been preserved, but it already contains many of the focal elements of his musical thinking. One is the wide range of expression extending from lush late Romanticism to Impressionism. Another feature, and one often encountered in Pingoud, is the literary reference, in this case the poem La voix (from the collection Fleurs du mal) by Charles Baudelaire, a poet popular with the Symbolists.

Prologue (esiintyy myös nimellä Prologue symphonique) on Ernest Pingoud'n varhaisin säilynyt teos. Jo siinä tulee esiin useita Pingoud'n musiikillisen ajattelun keskeisiä piirteitä. Yksi on uhkeasta myöhäisromantiikasta impressionismiin ulottuva laaja tyyliasteikko. Toinen usein Pingoud'lla esiintyvä piirre on musiikin taustalla oleva kirjallinen lähtökohta, tässä tapauksessa symbolistien suosikkirunoilijan Charles Baudelairen runo La voix (kokoelmasta Fleurs du mal).
