Puun ääni

Description

Kuhmon Kamarimusiikin tilaama pianokvartetto on vapaa parafraasi Eira Stenbergin kolmesta runokatkelmasta:

I

En minä kysy sinulta hopeapaju, joka olet salakoita

välkkyvä verkko,

en sinulta pitkäselkäinen mänty, jolla on poikien

kapeat lanteet,

en sinulta kataja, sisun ja köyhyyden nälkäinen haamu,

vain sinulta kysyn äitikuusi, jonka tassun alla tahdomme maata,

sinulta jonka telttahelma on kyllin pimeä unta varten,

Mikä on se aika joka odottaa minua?

Puun äiti, kuuntele tuulta!

Kuka noin hengästynyt on läsnä

eikä puhu?

Sydän hakkaa, jymisevä kehto,

kun silmut avaavat vihreät silmänsä.

Kohta alkaa valon ja lehtivihreän coitus,

jota oksalla jankuttava lintu yrittää selittää.

III

Puun sisällä on onkalo johon voi pudota,

lehtimaja ja majassa rasia rasian sisällä

ja sisimmässä avain huoneeseen

jossa on puun ääni,

niin korkea ja syvä ettei sitä korva kuule.

Silver willow, it’s not you I’m asking, you net of flashing minnows,

nor you, long-backed pinebole with boy’s

slim hips,

nor you, tough juniper, impoverished ghost of hunger,

it’s only you, mother spruce, I’m asking, with your paw we long to lie under,

your tent-skirt dark enough to dream under.

What is the age that’s waiting for me?

Tree mother, hear the wind!

Who is it, so breathless,

without a word?

The heart thumps, a bumping cradle,

when the buds widen green eyes.

Soon it starts: the coitus of chlorophyll and sunlight,

with the bird yackety-yacking on the branch, trying to explain.

Inside the tree there’s a hollow you could fall in,

a leafy tree house and inside the house a box within a box

and inside the box the key to a room

where the tree’s voice is –

so high, so deep the ear can’t hear it.
