Noun - a fretwork circle

A Fretwork Circle for Guitar Solo
Description
Noun is my late-born ode to guitar, to the partly lost love of my youth, (I was to become guitarist, but after I had drifted onto the path of a composer, I have shared my affection within a wider territory.) The subtitle of this composition, which in fact is more essential than the title itself, links the work to the tradition of handiwork and thereby to the hands themselves, the traditional roles of which Noun calls into question from time to time. On the other hand I refer in the work to the instrumental idiom, to the guitar with its frets and, as far as the expression and the difficulties of expression are concerned, to the maximization of the efficiency of their relation. Noun speaks the language of a concert guitar linking occasional reflections of rock and flamenco to its vocabulary. In its faintest parts the composition explores dynamically shady areas of the quitar and in its noisiest parts the possibilities of the guitar as a percussion instrument. The closing phrase links itself to the beginning of the work creating a compact and concise circle.

Noun on myöhään sepitetty oodi kitaralle, soittain menetetylle nuoruudenrakkaudelleni.
