Nonetto
by Aarre Merikanto
Nonet
Description
The Nonet is, along with the Schott Concerto, the main chamber music work of Merikanto's most radical period. Its idiom is, however, more linear and translucent than that of the Schott Concerto, more sharp-featured and dissonant, and calls to mind the works by Hindemith composed in the early 1920s. Nor is the Nonet so concerto-like as the Schott. It was never performed during Merikanto's lifetime, and the embittered composer destroyed most of the score. This has, however, been reconstructed from the individual parts.

Nonetto on Schott-konserton ohella toinen Merikannon radikaalin kauden keskeinen kamarimusiikkiteos.
