Description
Marching Piper (2010) on kirjoitettu nuorille huilisteille Suomen Huiluseuran tilausteoksena seuran pedagogiikkapäiville marraskuussa 2010. Marssiaiheen ympärille rakennetussa reipashenkisessä kappaleessa nuori soittaja tutustuu selkeisiin ja toimiviin efekteihin ja uusiin soittotekniikoihin, kuten ”jet whistle” -ylipuhallus, flageoletit, erikoistrillit ja -tremolot. Kappaleen pedagoginen anti sisältää myös ulkomusiikillisien keinovarojen käyttöä: sävelten ohella huilistin jalkatyö on notatoitu tarkasti ja vaatii soittajalta hyvää kehon koordinaatiota ja hallintaa esitystilanteessa – seikka jossa nuoret huilistit saattavat jättää varjoon vanhemmat kollegansa! Marching Piperin kantaesitti nuori huilisti Ylva Öhman 7.11.2010 Espoossa.

Marching Piper was commissioned by the Finnish Flute Association for young flutists, to be performed during the Association’s pedagogue days in November 2010. The frisky piece, based on a marching theme, offers a student set of clear and useful new playing techniques, such as ”Jet whistle” -overblowing, flageolets, special trills and tremolos. Performing the piece also requires the use of external gestures: in addition to basic music, the footwork is also notated precisely thus demanding a good physical coordination and control of the body—a crucial part of the performance in which young musicians may leave their seniors behind! Marching Piper was premiered by a young flutist Ylva Öhman on November 7th 2010 in Espoo, Finland.
