Description

Aarre Merikanto was one of the leading Finnish modernists of the 1920s but in his early works still relied strongly on the Romantic legacy. Representing this early period is the symphonic poem Lemminkäinen, which has both folk-like dance elements and late Romantic Russian overtones associated chiefly with Rakhmaninov.

Aarre Merikanto oli yksi 1920-luvun keskeisistä suomalaisista modernisteista, mutta varhaistuotannossaan hän tukeutui vielä vahvasti romanttiseen perintöön. Tätä varhaisvaihetta edustaa sinfoninen runo Lemminkäinen, jossa on sekä kansanomaista tanssillisuutta että venäläissävyistä, lähinnä Rahmaninoviin liittyvää myöhäisromanttisuutta.
