Le Fétich

Diableries galantes (a painting by Félicien Rops)
Description
Pingoud drew considerable inspiration from symbolist art. In Le fétiche the source was the Belgian Symbolist Félicien Rops. The dominant dimension of the work is the limpidly orchestrated scherzo mood incorporating march-like elements. It is a mixture of Romantic, impressionistic and Skryabin-like elements typical of Pingoud, though the angularity of the themes often points more to the folk-song motifs of Stravinsky and to Neoclassicism in general.

Pingoud sai merkittäviä virikkeitä symbolistisesta taiteesta. Teoksessa Le fétiche (Fetissi) innoittajana on ollut belgialainen symbolistitaiteilija Félicien Rops. Teoksen keskeisenä ulottuvuutena on läpikuultavasti orkesteroitu scherzomaisuus, johon yhdistyy myös marssimaisia aineksia. Teos on Pingoud'lle tyypillinen sekoitus romanttisista, impressionistisista ja Skrjabiniin viittaavista elementeistä. Toisaalta tematiikan kulmikkuus viittaa usein Stravinskyn kansanlauluaihelmien ja yleisemmin uusklassismin suuntaan.
