La danza invisible del agua
for flute and piano
Description
Ever since I was a child, I have spent a lot of time at the shores of Baltic and Mediterranean seas. The condition of both environments has raised concerns for decades, due to various forms of pollution. My work "La Danza Invisible del Agua" forms a continuation to my work "El Canto del Mar Infinito" (commissioned by the Tampere Biennale 2020 festival). Just like the previous one, the latter work aims to highlight the importance of protecting our oceans. In the structural and tonal material of the work, underwater sounds of the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean have been used as raw material, which have been interpreted into music with the help of computer-assisted sound analysis. The piece is dedicated to its performers, flutist Sami Junnonen and pianist Tuomas Turriago, who premiered it at the Klang Concert series in Helsinki, and subsequently at the Tampere Biennale 2021.
