Description
After several years of keeping a piece for soprano saxophone and piano in the back of my mind, I hastily wrote "L'homme à la licorne" in Paris, in May-June 2011. The ten minutes lasting work is in three main movements, that are played without a break. Despite the descriptive title, this is not programmatic music, and each listener is entitled to do his or her own interpretation of the music, as usual.
Before composing this piece, I consulted Olli-Pekka Tuomisalo, who is a true master of contemporary saxophone repertoire. The work is thus dedicated to him and his trusty piano partner Risto-Matti Marin.
