Description

The Abduction of Kyllikki was inspired by the 100th anniversary of the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala. It is a set of four movements performed without a break and represents Aarre Merikanto in his more traditional style of the 1930s. It is marked by its use of folk-dance rhythms, but the static, chromatic tone of the Nocturne is a distant flashback to the modernism of the 1920s.

Kyllikin ryöstö on syntynyt Suomen kansalliseepoksen Kalevalan 100-vuotisjuhlien innoittamana. Teos on neliosainen, tauoitta soitettava sarja, joka edustaa Aarre Merikannon 1930-luvun perinteisempää tyylikautta. Kyllikin ryöstöä sävyttävät kansantanssirytmit, mutta etäisenä muistumana 1920-luvun modernismista on Nocturnen kromaattinen, pysähtyneisyydessään vangitseva musiikki.
