Description

The work draws on a spatial image of movement in some intangible substance around a dense, solid centre. It begins with a theme, the hub, presented in four versions: not variations of one another but as if they were examined from different angles and distances. The slower music in between consists of leaps and arches in different directions, and the last appearance of the theme, fortissimo, is followed by an epilogue leading far away to silence.

Teoksen taustalla on avaruudellinen mielikuva tiheän, solidin keskuksen ympärillä aineettomuudessa kiertävästä liikkeestä. Teoksen aloittaa teema, keskus, joka kuullaan neljänä versiona: ei toistensa variaatioina, vaan ikäänkuin eri kulmista, eri etäisyyksiltä tarkasteltuna. Väliin jäävä hitaampi musiikki on hyppyjä ja kaarroksia eri suuntiin, ja viimeisen teemaesiintymän, fortissimoversion, jälkeen seuraa epilogi, kohti hiljaisuutta, kauas.
