korkeina aamujen kaaret
by Hannu Pohjannoro
lofty the arches of morning, lofty the arches of morning
Description
The work was inspired by images of light in a landscape of great distances, of variations in the temperature, brightness and distance of light. In my composition these variations do not fit any model borrowed from nature; rather, the end result is an artefact, a composition, a dream. Another source of inspiration was the idea of constant movement. The opening trills begin to grow, more details become audible, the timbral planes expand and contract. The little melody fragments appearing later likewise swell in the end into mighty waves. The trills return, having acquired additional energy, infused with melodic movement. Once the climax has been reached, it is time for an epilogue: to slow down, to grow dim, to end. Structurally the work is a set of 46 variations grouped into four sections marked off by interludes. © Hannu Pohjannoro, February 2000 (translated by © Susan Sinisalo) Teoksen taustalla on mielikuvia valosta suurten etäisyyksien maisemassa, valon lämpimyyden, kirkkauden ja etäisyyden vaihteluista. Teoksessa nämä vaihtelut eivät noudata mitään luonnosta lainattua mallia, vaan lopputulos on artefakti, kompositio, uni. Toinen tärkeä lähtökohta on jatkuvan liikkeen ajatus. Alun trillit alkavat kasvaa, enemmän yksityiskohtia tulee kuuluviin, sointipinnat vuoroin laajenevat ja suppenevat. Myöhemmin ilmaantuvat pienet melodiafragmentit laajenevat nekin lopulta suuriksi aalloiksi. Trillit palaavat, energisempinä kuin aiemmin, yhdistyneinä melodiseen liikkeeseen. Kun huippu on saavutettu, on epilogin aika: hidastuminen, hämärtyminen, loppu. Rakenteellisesti teos on 46 variaation sarja, jotka on ryhmitelty neljään interludien toisistaan erottamaan jaksoon. © Hannu Pohjannoro, helmikuussa 2000
