Klavierstück
by Magnus Lindberg
Musik för piano
Description
Composed immediately after Tre stycken in the spring of 1977, the piece was first performed by the composer in Helsinki under the title of Musik för piano (Music for piano), before being played at the Ung nordisk musik (Young Nordic Music) festival in Iceland. Lindberg intended to write a new piano sonata for a concert organised by Finnish radio on 14 February 1982, but he was unable to finish it in time. He therefore rechristened the old piece Klavierstück, without changing the score. This composition marks an important stage in young Lindberg's development, and was the first he showed to his teacher. Still written using serial methods, Klavierstück displays the influence of Xenakis as regards textures.
