Description

The combination of horse and man is the Centaur. The combination of viola and piano is... Kheiron (Chiron), the wisest of all the Centaurs. A piece, especially a finished one, arouses in my mind many questions. I'm now going to put forth some of them.

1) How to combine a balanced overall form with the most unrestricted freedom of expression for the players?

2) How to combine a classically constructed sonata form with a whimsical happening?

3) How to combine the time-space of the score with the space-time of the performance situation?

4) How to combine the presence of the composer with the presence of the players?

5) How to combine the absence of the composer with the absence of the players?

6) How to combine the presence of the players with the presence of the audience?

7) How to combine the absence of the players with the absence of the audience?

8) How to combine the presence-absence of the composer with the presence-absence of the players?

9) How to combine the presence-absence of the players with the presence-absence of the audience?
