“Geasseija niehku”

Description

The Summer Concerto “Geasseija niehku” (Summer Night’s Dream) for string orchestra was commissioned by the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra. Though played without a break, it falls into three parts consisting of two lively vivo sections framing a more sustained lento that is in places brittle and translucent. The outer sections are marked by quick, even brilliant agility, gestures almost Webern-like in their crystallisation and an elegant kinetic quality. The vivo of the last section also has a contrasting sostenuto episode.

Jousiorkesterille kirjoitettu Kesäkonsertto ”Geasseija niehku” (Kesäyön uni) on syntynyt Keski-Pohjanmaan Kamariorkesterin tilauksesta. Se on yhtäjaksoisesti soitettava mutta kolmeen osaan jaettu kokonaisuus, jossa eloisat Vivo-osat kehystävät keskellä olevaa pitkälinjaisempaa, tosin paikoin myös läpikuultavan haurasta Lento-osaa. Äärijaksoille on ominaista nopealiikkeisyys, jopa taiturillisuus, webernmäisen kiteytyneet eleet ja elegantti kineettisyys. Viimeisessä osassa Vivo-jaksojen sisällä on myös kontrastoiva sostenuto-taite.
