Description

This work is based on a psalm chant from the Liturgy of St Henry, the patron saint of Finland. This liturgy is the earliest preserved work of music originating in Finland. The chant is set in a modal style, anchored in A flat and making much use of parallel sixths in a fauxbourdon-type texture. The chant is interspersed with more rapid alleluia sections.

Teos perustuu psalmimelodiaan, joka on peräisin Pyhän Henrikin liturgiasta, varhaisimmasta säilyneestä suomalaisesta musiikkiteoksesta. Melodiaa on käsitelty As-pohjaisessa ympäristössä modaalisesti; tekstuurissa on runsaasti rinnakkaisia sekstejä fauxbourdon-tyyliin. Psalmin jakeiden välissä on vauhdikkaampia alleluia-jaksoja.
