Description

This work is an arrangement for male voice choir of the eponymous Gregorian chant perhaps best known for its appearance in Britten’s Ceremony of Carols. The sound of the work was influenced by Georgian folk music, although this influence consists solely of the fact that I happened to hear some of it in a record shop in Oxford in December 1990, and its characteristic yodelling descant found its way into the top voice of this piece.

Tämä teos on sovitus mieskuorolle samannimisestä gregoriaanisesta sävelmästä, joka lienee parhaiten tunnettu esiintymästään Brittenin teoksessa Ceremony of Carols. Teoksen äänimaailmaan on vaikuttanut gruusialainen kansanmusiikki, joskaan kyseessä ei ole sen syvällisempi vaikutus kuin että satuin kuulemaan pätkän tätä musiikkia levykaupassa Oxfordissa joulukuussa 1990; sen äänikuvaa hallitseva jodlaava diskanttiääni löysi tiensä tämän teoksen ylä-ääneen.
