Grounds

Description
The opportunity to write for period instruments inspired me to find the form of the work in a historical model. Grounds is a series of short entities where en unchanging charasteristic passage underlies all other musical events. Even if composing can sometimes be a serious toil, writing Grounds was a happy game with music where different affects took their places as in a mosaic.

Mahdollisuus säveltää teos periodisoittimille houkutteli myös Grounds-teokseen muodon idean historiasta. Grounds on sarja lyhyehköjä kokonaisuuksia, joissa lähes kaikissa jokin pysyvä, itsensä näköinen sävelkulku luo pohjan muulle musiikilliselle tapahtumalle. Jos säveltäminen on joskus ryppyotsaista ja vakavaa puurtamista, niin Groundsin säveltäminen on pikemminkin iloista ja hilpeää leikkiä, musiikkipeliä, jossa monet erilaiset affektit asettuvat mosaiikinpaloiksi kokonaiskuvassa.
