From the Village of Nowhere

by Matei Gheorghiu

Piano concerto

Description

It evokes a place that exists in my mind, a place that combines houses, culture, and nature both Romanian and Finnish. It is the place where I feel most at home. That is probably because, as a Romanian that has been living in Finland since 2007, my ideal, peaceful, and spiritual home is somewhere in between the Romanian and Finnish universes. I did not plan to make a piece based on this theme, it kind of came by itself. Finland turned 100 in 2017 and the Greater Romania in 2018, both national days are in December (6th and 1st) and that made me think deeply about both these countries’ identity and my relation to them and this piece came as a result of that thought process.
