Description

Also known as Les aveugles, this is one of the most consistent Pingoud works in mood. Composed in memory of a friend, it is dominated by a static yet lyrical clear nocturnal mood embroidered by comments from the soloists bound together by a recurring rising quintuplet motif. Towards the end it rises to a great climax, but unlike many of Pingoud’s works, it then subsides into silence with little display of emotion.

Flambeaux éteints (Sammuneet soihdut) - joka tunnetaan myös nimellä Les aveugles (Sokeat) - on Pingoud'n tunnelmaltaan eheimpiä teoksia. Pingoud sävelsi sen "erään ystävän muistolle". Teosta hallitsee solististen repliikkien kirjoma pysähtynyt mutta lyyrisen kuulas yötunnelma, josta erottuu tekstuuria sitovana elementtinä usein toistuva ylöspäinen kvintoli-kuvio. Loppupuolella on suuri huipennus, mutta monista Pingoud'n teoksista poiketen musiikki liukuu lopussa väheleisesti hiljaisuuteen.
