Description

Exsultate was written in 1954 on commission for a series of concerts of Finnish organ music. It was first performed by Enzio Forsblom, Professor of the organ at the Sibelius Academy, who has also recorded it.

Bergman has described the work as a virtuoso exploration of the possibilities offered by the organ. The work is in an ABA form, the middle section being a two-part pastorale for the manuals alone. This is followed by a fugal section which builds up to a massive chordal climax.

Erik Bergman sävelsi Exsultaten tilautyönä suomalaista urkumusiikkia sisältävään teossarjaan vuonna 1954. Sibelius-Akatemian urkujensoiton professori Enzio Forsblom esitti sen ensi kerran vuonna 1955. Hän on myös levyttänyt teoksen.

Exsultatessa Bergman on halunnut kokeilla urkujen mahdollisuuksia, ja itse hän luonnehtii teostaan taiturimaiseksi. Kehysmuotoisessa sävellyksessä on kaksiääninen, ilman pedaalia soitettava pastoraalinen väliosa, jonka jälkeen alkaa fuugamainen nousu. Sävellys päättyy massiivisiin akordeihin.
