Description

Lindberg, whose father was a computer engineer, was very interested in musical computing and spent the summer [1977] at EMS (Elektronmusikstudion) in Stockholm, which was at that time the only town near Helsinki to be equipped with a studio with computer. He stayed there six months and produced a piece for tape, using composition algorithms. Once the data had been fed into the PDP 10 computer, the piece was automatically reproduced. Etwas zarter is a piece for four track tape using non-conventional harmonic structure: the scale is divided into ten intervals, hence the title: Somewhat softer.

Très intéressé par l'informatique musicale, Lindberg, fils d'un ingénieur en informatique, passait l'été [1977] au EMS (Elektronmusikstudion) à Stockholm, seule ville proche d'Helsinki alors équipée d'un studio avec ordinateur. Il y est resté six mois pour réaliser une pièce pour bande, à partir des algorithmes compositionnels. Une fois les donnés introduites dans l'ordinateur PDP 10, la pièce était automatiquement reproduite. Etwas zarter est une ceuvre pour bande à quatre pistes avec une écriture non conventionnelle : la gamme est divisée en dix intervalles, d'où le titre : Un peu plus doux.
