Description

Elegy is based on a piece I composed for a short film 'Closure' (dir. Oscar Wollsten) in 2015. The original piece was scored for a symphony orchestra. I quite liked the ideas the original composition had, and in 2022 I decided to rework the music into a short solo piano piece. Stylistically, Elegy draws heavy influence from late 19th century romantic music and as such is quite different from the rest of my compositional output.

This composition is a good excercise for the intermediate pianist, especially on practising how to make melodic lines audible in a polyphonic texture. The tempo marking is an approximation, and the player may alter it to their liking but the general characteristic of the piece should be serene.
