I composed this work to raise awareness of the importance of protecting our sea environments. I have always lived in the proximity of the sea: it is an important and inspiring element to me. El Canto del Mar Infinito is based on two texts written by me (in English and in Spanish) that both focus on that theme. As stated previously, “the ocean has a beautiful surface, but it is also infinite and unpredictable”. I have given part of the authorship of this work to the sea itself: parts of the instrumentation and pitch material have been generated through computer-based analysis of the sounds below and above the surface. The work was commissioned by Tampere Biennale 2020 (first performance by Uusinta Ensemble, August 2020).
