Eclysis
Description
The one-movement Eclysis for chamber orchestra falls into three clear sections, the first of which I have called a passacaglia. In it the basic material for the whole work goes round and round in the bass. The middle section is a scherzo, but in the sense that the scherzo of, say, Mahler’s seventh symphony could be described as scherzo-like. The third section is an epilogue, because it answers the questions posed in the preceding movements rather than asking new ones. © Juha T. Koskinen
