Kolme kansanlaulua / Drei finnische Volkslieder (28./1977)

Kolme kansanlaulua
Description
The Three folk songs for double mixed choir were completed in my second year in Berlin, 1977. They were commissioned by Hans Hilsdorf, who was then my teacher in orchestra conducting, and he specifically requested folk songs. The work is dedicated to Hans-Karl Ulrich, whose friendship helped me in settling in that large city and who was a Fennophile. The Finnish Radio Chamber Choir premiered the work under Harald Andersén Rovaniemi in December 7 1977. Although these songs are primarily arrangements, I wanted to avoid the typical chunk-by-chunk verse structure and provide a continuous texture, instrumental if you like.

Kolme kansanlaulua kaksoissekakuorolle valmistui toisena Berliininvuotenani 1977. Radion kamarikuoro kantaesitti teoksen Harald Andersénin johdolla joulukuussa 1977. Vaikka kyse onkin lähinnä sovituksista, halusin välttää näille yleensä tyypillistä katkonaista säelaulantaa ja kirjoittaa jatkuvaa, tavallaan soittimellista satsia.
