Concerto per 13
by Usko Meriläinen
Description
The Concerto per 13 scored for small orchestra illustrates Meriläinen’s liking for concerto-like expression as manifest in his solo concertos and the two concertos for orchestra. The tension in the first movement is between two different types of music: one marked by free, elastic rhythms and the other by striking effects in the manner of Bartók. The textures, too, can be construed as web-like versus more conventional weaves. The second movement grows from static meditation to a climax disintegrating into aleatory.

Toinen osa kasvaa pysähtyneestä meditaatiosta aleatoriseksi hajoavaan huipennukseen.
