Description

The concerto for chamber orchestra was commissioned by the Tapiola Sinfonietta and is scored for double wind, two horns and strings. The concerto element is revealed more in the extensive use of solo instruments and group solos than in the virtuosic handling of the orchestra as a whole. The concerto is in three movements, in the first two of which solos alternate with statements by the various sections. The last movement is the most outspoken of the three and makes more use than the others of tutti effects. Alongside the timbre aspect characteristic of Bergman the work also draws on expressionistic melodies.

Konsertto kamariorkesterille on sävelletty Tapiola Sinfoniettan tilauksesta, ja soittimiston muodostavat kaksinkertaiset puupuhaltimet, kaksi käyrätorvea ja jousisto. Konsertoiva elementti tulee esiin enemmän runsaina soitinsooloina ja ryhmäsooloina kuin koko soittajiston yhteisvirtuoosisuutena. Teoksessa on kolme osaa, joista kahdessa ensimmäisessä soolot vuorottelevat orkesteriryhmien repliikkien kanssa.
