Clarinet Concerto No. 2

by Sebastian Fagerlund

Description

"My Clarinet Concerto No. 2 consists of three movements.

The first movement could be described as a slow and atmospheric introduction. In the second movement, a lively and rythmic ritornello-motive sets the mood and the solo clarinet is in constant dialogue with the orchestra.

The form of the third movement is structured as a theme and variations. The movement begins with a delicate and beautiful musical landscape, but towards the end of the concerto the musical expression gradually grows increasingly virtuosic and fast.

Almost twenty years has passed since I composed my first Clarinet Concerto for Christoffer Sundqvist. We both felt that now would be a good time to create a new concerto together, and I feel that the music conveys the joy and inspiration that has been present in our many collaborations. Over the years, these collaborations have taken so many different forms and resulted in a multitude of new works."
